Key Points

The issue is not necessarily a stress management issue, or even a burnout issue. We truly have a boundary and leadership issue. We need to start to assess, what is our true aim in life, how do we want to live and show up? You don't even know when to say yes or when to say no, and “No” is a perfect sentence. We don't have to explain [our No's] to other people. And you don't have to feel like you're missing out, or you're doing other people a disservice if you don't say yes to a task they want you to help with.

When you think about taking the time for quiet, stillness or meditation, the worst mistake you can make is telling yourself that you don't have time to be still. You can take supplements or drink an energy drink, but there is more value in just periodically sitting and being still. The people who think they don't have time to sit and be still are the ones that need to do it the most. Because rushing around doing all the things without having a moment to yourself, is to your detriment.

In positive psychology, we have an equation: success = knowledge base, which is your EQ (emotional intelligence), your IQ, the educational degrees you have or the experience you accumulate from books, audio, etc. But as Napoleon Hill said, if you don't use the knowledge correctly, it's not power. We have to be able to select correctly.

Sabotaging Behaviors

There are nine other types of sabotaging behaviors. Some are relevant to high performers out there, like our judgment: we start criticizing all the things we haven't done or have done, that are not to our standard or other people's standard. Could be controlling tendencies, thinking, "If only I knew exactly what to do and how to do it, then this will be perfect. It's actually a fear of being judged, and not really knowing who you are as a person. Another sabotaging tendency is to think that you can't go away.

The number one step is knowing how you want to show up as a person. What are your top three value systems? How do you want to live in general, not just the doing part. Now reverse-engineer the steps. It's not just about blocking out time to do things, but setting, realistic intentions, and goals for you to get there.

Action leads to more confidence, which leads to more competency, in turn leading to more action. You don't necessarily have to be comfortable and confident to do something. Start doing it, and then you will become more confident and create momentum to continue.

We don't have to feel that need to compete, just show up and know who you are as a person and live like that because we can choose happiness. We can choose to have fulfillment. We can choose to be content, while we're doing all the good stuff in the world.

Multitasking

18:01 Multitasking is a myth. You know a lot of people want to do all the things simultaneously, but you can't do six things at once if they require a cognitive load. Now, a load of laundry does not qualify, since you're not physically washing the clothes and doing something else. We're referring to your mental energy. Multitasking makes you prone to make mistakes. But it comes from that pressure, whether it's pressure from society, pressure from the boss, pressure from yourself.

Giving and Receiving

The law of receptivity says that you can not only give, but receive. Are you in a place to receive? We talk about a lot of giving, empathy showing up better, but we're not about how to receive knowledge, gifts and opportunities.

Some people think they're too good already. "Well, who are you to offer me something, or how do you know I need this, or What do you want from me" as if there is always a catch. And they put themselves on a high pedestal. They don't understand what they need and how to receive it.

Another spectrum people say "I don't want that gift. I don't even know how to pay you back." You feel like they're not worthy enough to receive.

Mastering Your Mental Immunity

Your health is not just about your physical body. Without a sharp mind, a positive mind, knowing that we can pivot out of our sabotaging tendency, we still get to be in that roller coaster, never feeling true contentment or fulfillment. So you must learn how to master your mental immunity.
